Subjective Value

The idea that value arises from an individual's judgment, not from an objective property contained in a good.

Subjective value means that goods are valued because people believe they can serve particular purposes. The same object can therefore be worth much to one person and little to another.

This insight explains why voluntary exchange can benefit both parties: each person ranks what they receive more highly than what they give up at that moment.
