Time Preference

The degree to which a person values present satisfaction relative to satisfaction in the future.

Time preference helps explain saving, investment and interest. People commonly prefer a good now to the same good later, though the strength of that preference differs between people and situations.

Lower time preference can support saving and longer production processes; higher time preference places more weight on present consumption. It is a tendency revealed in choice, not a moral label.
