Marginal Utility

The importance a person assigns to one additional unit of a good, given the units already available.

Marginal utility describes the value of a particular additional unit, not the usefulness of an entire class of goods. When supplies change, the use a person would give up or gain at the margin helps explain changing choices and exchange.
